FOUNDER, PRESIDENT & CEO, AESSENSE
Robert (Bob) Chen is the founder of AEssense, a global provider of wireless sensing and control solutions to optimize the plant growth environment including turnkey automated plant growth systems, remote monitoring and control systems, and wireless handheld monitoring instruments, and AEssense Fresh, a subscription-based service providing fresh produce in China which is grown using our solutions, and serves as President and Chief Executive Officer. He has a long history of building successful businesses in Silicon Valley, where he founded and served in several business and community endeavors. His industry experience includes various engineering and management positions at General Motors, General Electric, Tektronix, Fairchild Semiconductor and Hewlett-Packard Company.
Prior to founding AEssense, Robert co-founded RAE Systems, a global developer and manufacturer of rapidly-deployable, multi-sensor chemical and radiation detection monitors and networks, in 1991 and served as chairman, president and chief executive officer. RAE Systems developed and delivered sensing solutions that integrate potential real-world threats over wireless networks to provide life- and time-critical information for quick decision-support and execution of necessary actions. The company was acquired by Honeywell in 2013. Prior to co-founding RAE Systems, Robert founded AOT Corporation (Applied Optoelectronic Technology), a manufacturer of computer-aided test systems, in 1981 and served as chairman, president and chief executive officer. It was later acquired by Hewlett-Packard as a division within its instrumentation group, where he served as general manager of the division for two years.
Robert was born in China and grew up in Taiwan, where he earned a BSEE from National Taiwan Cheng-Kung University. He continued his graduate studies in the U.S. earning an MSEE from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in 1973. He also received an Advanced Engineer Degree from Syracuse University in 1977. He graduated from OPM Class 18 of the Harvard Graduate School of Business in 1992. He enjoys mentoring young professionals, photography and travelling. He is publishing a book this year to inspire and guide aspiring entrepreneurs.
