Jim is an indoor vertical farming expert based in Southern California. He is currently engaged with the University of California (Agriculture and Natural Resources) and is an organizer for the annual conference, Indoor Ag Con. His most recent work has been with Sananbio U.S./Oasis Biotech; the advanced indoor vertical farm located in Las Vegas, Nevada. His work included engagement with universities (University of Arizona’s CEAC and UC Davis among others), government (USDA), bio-pharma (plant-made pharmaceuticals) and seed trials engagement with Bayer.
Jim is the former General Manager of the landmark indoor vertical farm, Urban Produce, a large-scale commercial indoor vertical farm located in Irvine, CA. Jim was involved in all areas of production and operations since its inception in 2014; including the oversight of a 15-person crew, inventory management, growing/harvesting, shipping/logistics, vendor management, and sales and marketing.
As an industry evangelist, he has hosted several international conferences, is a speaker (recently at the American Seed Trade Association’s annual conference in Orlando, FL) and has written extensively on the subject of indoor vertical farming for the online magazine, Urban Ag News.
Prior to pursuing a career in indoor agriculture, he spent 20 years in technology and software licensing, 10 with Hewlett Packard. Jim holds a degree in International Relations from San Francisco State University.
