Akissi Stokes, WUNDERgrubs
With 25 years of proven experience as a Financial and Business Analyst, and Project Manager in the public, private and non-profit sectors in the areas of Finance and IT, Akissi has worked for the likes of the Carter Center, Xerox Corporation, Federal Reserve Board of Governors, Northrop Grumman, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
So Akissi Y. Stokes never thought growing up on her grandfather’s farm would now become her life’s mission. Except she traded in cows for micro-livestock – insects to be exact. She believes regenerative and precision agriculture combined with insects unlock the potential to help restore our soil, animals, and health. Insects have a smaller carbon and water footprint, plus more efficiently convert feed.
Thus, she hatched WUNDERgrubs in 2016 with Cofounder Karim J. Nelson as an agritech, social enterprise that specializes in the production of edible insects as an affordable, accessible, and healthy protein solution for humans. WUNDERgrubs is dedicated to the advocacy of insects not only as a way to create more resilient and equitable food systems, but also as a more sustainable commodity – using less resources and helping to restore soil.
WUNDERgrubs is excited about upcoming projects this year such as the recent launch of their IoT Living Lab pilot to showcase insect farming, food products, and educational programming. They look forward to becoming a world-class solution for edible insects and believe everyone deserves to eat!
