Operational Excellence Award Finalists

Product Innovation Finalists

Who are our finalists, and what stood out in their nomination forms? Here’s a few quick snippets:

DRAMM

Product: CE-Line
What it does: An in-line, real-time nutrient analysis system that allows growers to see a nutrient readout of their macro and micronutrients in 45 minutes. Internal and independent laboratory analysis affirmed a 95% level of confidence with a repeatability of 95%, signifying no more than 1 in 20 measurements may exceed a 5% divergence from stated values. The system is environmental controls agnostic.
In their own words: “This system is not only a faster way to access their nutrient profile but also a form of insurance. It can allow growers to quickly understand if there is a formulation issue or human or system error, allowing them to make the necessary changes to save their crop. Facilities can also start (to) adjust their fertilizer strategies, allowing them to potentially use less fertilizers, increase crop performance and have a form of insurance that may prevent crop loss or performance issues.”

Kappa Ag Tech

Product: Silicone Substrate
What it does: Created as a replacement for disposable growing media in hydroponic production, silicone substrate is made from durable, food-safe silicone and is designed to last indefinitely without degrading. It is hydrophobic, preventing waterlogging while ensuring optimal oxygenation, and is designed for customization.
In their own words: “Unlike disposable growing media, in which each material and each batch interacts differently with nutrient chemistry, Silicone Substrate is inert. This unique quality simplifies nutrient dosing so growers know exactly what nutrients are reaching the plants versus be bound by a growing media. Similarly, Silicone Substrate simplifies system maintenance, eliminating the mess of loose growing media in processing areas and eliminating media particulate from fouling the irrigation lines in recirculating systems.”

Rooted Robotics

Product: Tabletop Microgreens & Baby Greens Seeder
What it does: The seeder is a cost-effective automation tool created to make microgreens and leafy greens production more accessible and profitable. It features multiple roller types and an intuitive control dial to ensure precise seeding density, reducing waste while maximizing yields. An optional vibration motor and soft roller allow it to handle soaked seeds like sunflower and pea, addressing a key industry challenge.
In their own words: “Our seeder addresses the critical market need for affordable and efficient automation in microgreens and leafy greens production, particularly for small and mid-sized growers in the CEA industry. The product meets challenges such as inconsistent seeding leading to inconsistent yields, seed waste, labor-intensive processes of weighing and spreading seeds and difficulty of handling soaked seeds like sunflower and pea. Its scalability is evident in its modular design, which allows growers to start with the base model and add features like a post-seeding watering bar or sprinkler system as their operations expand.”
