Dr. Murat Kacira, University of Arizona

Dr. Murat Kacira University of Arizona CEACMurat Kacira is director of the Controlled Environment Agriculture Center and he is a professor in the Biosystems Engineering Department at the University of Arizona. He received his B.S. degree in Agricultural Engineering in Cukurova University in Turkey.  He also received his   M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering from The Ohio State University in USA.


Dr. Kacira’s research involves in greenhouse and plant energy balance studies.  His research also includes computer vision guided autonomous plant health and growth monitoring systems.  Additional research includes modeling and simulation of aerodynamics in controlled environment agriculture systems, photovoltaics integrated greenhouse systems.

Speaking Engagements

Kacira has given lectures regularly at greenhouse crop production and engineering short courses.  He has also given  keynote and invited lectures both at the national and international scientific meetings and conferences. He teaches undergraduate and graduate level engineering courses at The University of Arizona. Kacira is a member of American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) and International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS). He serves as chair of the Division Precision Horticulture and Engineering under ISHS.

About UA-Controlled Environment Agriculture Center (UA-CEAC)

The Controlled Environment Agriculture Center (UA-CEAC) is a multidisciplinary research, teaching, and outreach/extension program at the University of Arizona. The UA-CEAC, through its faculty, staff, students and with its industry collaborators, focuses on innovative technologies for the generation of food, bioenergy, and bioproducts to develop challenging research programs with application in science, engineering and practice.  The center also strives  to educate students in a variety of settings and for varying purposes in best practices, creative approaches to problem-solution, engineering, and the methods of science.  The institution also works  to facilitate programs, events and materials for industry and the general public to learn more about the importance which Controlled Environment Agriculture has in meeting current and future problems with creative, practical, and highly successful solutions. The UA-CEAC commemorated 20 successful and productive years with the Center’s 20th Anniversary in 2020.
